Political Irony Defined

White Supremacists for Obama?

White people are faced with either a negro or a total nutter who happens to have a pale face. Personally I’d prefer the negro. National Socialists are not mindless haters. Here, I see a white man, who is almost dead, who declares he wants to fight endless wars around the globe to make the world safe for Judeo-capitalist exploitation, who supports the invasion of America by illegals–basically a continuation of the last eight years of Emperor Bush. Then, we have a black man, who loves his own kind, belongs to a Black-Nationalist religion, is married to a black women–when usually negroes who have ‘made it’ immediately land a white spouse as a kind of prize — that’s the kind of negro that I can respect.

With an Obama endorsement like that I think I'm back in the undecided camp.

  • They only hate half of him.

“Still, for some in China, the Obama glass remained only half-full. "Obama is half-white, half-black, so the progress in the U.S. is not that big," said Hu Jing, 25, a paralegal. "It will take dozens of years to elect a person who is 100 percent black."

  • Wow. Give me a moment, for the first time in a while I'm left momentarily speechless
    ...

    ...

These are some crazy times we live in.

It brings to mind those 'I'll hold my nose while I vote for McCain' buttons going around a while back. What bothers me the most about this election is just how close it was. I mean, it was a solid win, but still, a man in his 70's with health problems with a running mate who can't find Africa on a map, much less name the three countries in North America seemed to have a chance against a man who immediately sold out any venue of any size he showed up to, even in Germany, to masses of people just hoping to see him as a speck near the horizon. One of the greatest speakers and success stories of our time.
On a related note, Jay Leno in his 11-07-08 monologue mentioned something about a statement made by Germany to the effect that it was good to see the US finally making reparations by electing Obama. Leno responded that Germany should get back to us when they elect a Jewish Chancellor.

  • C'mon Steel, cheer up. Look at it this way: an empty-suit, accomplishment-challenged, establishment crony liberal, the left-most candidate in your life, a man who won more elections in Illinois by default then by talent, actually pulled in 53% of the vote.

To swallow that exhibits an impressive rejection of GOP stewardship by the voters. Be happy.

  • I was torn about the comment above. My initial reaction was to not accept it (I have to accept all comments which wish to be posted on this blog because of spammers trying to deluge comment sections with ads). The reason for my initial reaction was twofold, first because it's tone seems intended to divide and incense rather that debate and second because, even though a username is anonymous the poster chose not even to use that as a pseudo-identifier so that had Steel chosen to respond he'd never know to which of the possibly infinite anonymous’ he was talking with.

In the end I decided to accept the post above for publication here. My reasons are this; First, Steel made a point which some would see as being as divisive as the anonymous poster’s and, because I agree with Steel, I may be blind to this bias. Second, some people have reasons to remain anonymous and because I allow users to post that way I shouldn’t then pick and choose which opinions I'll allow to be posted anonymously. Lastly, because it provides me an opportunity to debate the poster above.

But what I have to say has noting to do with the credentials of our current president but rather with the invective of the poster. There is nothing to discuss. You may as well call Obama too skinny and to half-black as call him "an empty-suit, accomplishment-challenged, establishment crony liberal". The invective is not meant to discuss or counter because if it is counter it one can then take a different line, ad infinitum. Ad hominem can be fun but make a coherent point instead of spewing hate.

If you think that arguing McCain's age isn't fair make that point, if you think Palin was unfairly characterized, make that point. But attacking the other team doesn’t disabuse one of the notions of the home team. I might as well say that you would rather see Bush invade a few more countries and see gays in gallows as Dick Cheney would, assertions you never made (though may subscribe to).

Don’t let the screen in front of you fool you into thinking no one is on the other side.

  • Parody is a common device and the snide-mirror seems a acceptable response to someone insulting fallen opponents because they're old or because some anonymous aide told an unsubstantiated hatchet job. Is Obama less worthy because he said we have 57 states in the Union and didn't know which Senate committee he served on? No, so why hang his opponents on such gaffes? So silly.

Besides the irrelevancy of it all hijacked an otherwise funny post & thread.

[Please don't equate my denigrating a candidate's resume (accomplishments, records, elections; “empty suit” is just metaphor for all that) to rascism or skinnism; that's absurd.]

On a totally different point, I know who you are and assumed you know who I am, but the anonymity is meant for people parachuting in by google or from other blogs.

  • You have an uncanny skill at skewering, which I know you are aware of, and I, as a leftist, have a sensitivity to needless harshness. I blame my birth order (as a liberal it is my right blame anything but myself). In any case, as is so often the case I feel our disagreements are in style rather than kind, generally.
