The Mightly Bic Pen

Apparently seven-pin axial tumbler locks used in bycycle U-Locks as well as vending machines, etc. are not secure and can be defeated by using a Bic pen. Yeah a pic pen. The article, the video and the forum for you, my ceaseless readers.

  • I can't open my evolite kryptonite lock. And it would be really nice to do that, because sometimes I can't find the key. Of course that's no guarantee that my lock isn't vulnerable, but it might not be. It's old and rusty lock, new in 1999. In one article I read it said that kryptonite locks from the last two years are more likely to be vulnerable.

I've got a shitty (converted) single-speed racing bike from the seventies now anyway. (It's a Japanese brand, Sekine, supposedly assembled by "natives just outside of Winnepeg," to quote the old man I bought it from.) Ain't nobody gonna try and steal this puppy. Not that it wouldn't break my heart to see it go, though.

Maybe I wasn't using the right colour of Bic pen.
